Robin Rice founded Robin's Nest Child Care in 1983 as a small family child care home in Bethesda, Maryland, to meet the needs of her own growing family. It was Robin’s dream to build a child care facility farther out in Montgomery County. That dream was realized in 1990 when Robin’s Nest moved to its present location on two acres of land in picturesque North Potomac across from Travilah Elementary School.

But we do not rely on our past successes to carry us into the future. Just as we inspire children to grow into their best, we continually seek to improve our facility, as evidenced by our recent renovations and plans for additional safety and security measures.

Outdoors

Bathed in beautiful natural light, our facility allows for easy access to our abundant outdoor space. Children play under shady trees in our playground area and in the adjacent field where we often play soccer. There are ample choices of outdoor play equipment for children of all ages and abilities. For instance, we have several types of swings to entertain toddlers, preschool, and school-age children. Robin’s Nest far exceeds the State’s requirements for outdoor space, and outdoor play is essential to our philosophy of balancing learning and play. Robin’s Nest is a safe environment for children to explore their world.

Indoors

Our open-concept indoor space was designed with children in mind. Restrooms, washing, and drinking water stations are accessible to children. We provide a variety of toys, books, and activities to engage all ages. Minimalist dividers that separate our rooms by age group permit children to see and hear the rest of the facility. As a result, children are comfortable with all of our teachers and rooms and are aware of children in other age groups, including siblings. These factors soften a child’s transition from infant to Kindergarten-ready.

Safety and Reliability

Ensuring the safety of children is the top priority at Robin’s Nest. Our facility is equipped with the latest in fire safety measures, and we regularly conduct fire and and emergency drills. A state-of-the-art standby generator guarantees that we will remain open with an uninterrupted supply of electricity during power outages. Inclement weather never closes Robin’s Nest, and the children love playing outside after a snowfall. We do not close for spring or summer break. Robin’s Nest is closed only on federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving. You can count on us!
